Again, brilliant article. Heavy on facts and information, light on opinion. If only our politicians would adopt your method of formulating an argument when they are formulating policy, we might achieve great things. Thanks.

The real problem with the Perry Christie form of anchor developents is as fllows:

1. There are no provisions or plans that affords Bahamian Ownership aeven though there are ways to do so.

2. They are totally Foreign controlled and more important foreign initiated and planned. Meaning the govt or Bahmaians are not even the planners, the idea people, they just sit and let foreign investors develop the planning and ideas. Our govt just sits around and wait for foreigners to bring in their ideas for economic development.

3. They give away our most precious asset, The superior market position in each Island

4. They also give away our only tangible asset, the land.

5. They are entirely real estate developments and not truly productive ecenomic developments.

6. All the profits made from the financing of the real estate and the real estate commissions never reach the Bahamas

7. They will produce primarily servant class jobs.

8. They will entrench the traditional dependency syndrome of Bahamaians

9. They will result in a modern plantation state in the Bahamas

10. The initial developers will leave and we will be left with thousands of rich influential second home owners who will dominate the polictical landscape

11. They will materially change the culture and community of the Islands and the Bahamas.

12. They are incredibly poorly negotiated by the Bahamian govt with so many better options for the Govt available if negotiated properly.

And there is more....
It is not economic development ...Its "Economic Prostitution".

Poorly thought out, poorly negotiated and an impending disaster of the Bahamas if it continues.

I would like to correct some misleading information you published regarding Treasure Cay.

The hotel operations at our facility at Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina never ceased operating during the 25 years it has been owned by my father, Ludwig Meister.

The hotel originally was one building (by the beach), then from the mid-1980’s, my father added a second building along the marina (then 96 hotel rooms and suites). Both buildings operated until 1990 when the old, outdated beach hotel building was shut down (and later torn down) with hotel operations continuing with the 96 hotel rooms and suites adjacent to the marina.

Due to guest demands, we recently converted a few adjoining hotel rooms into larger two and three bedroom suites. They are hotel rooms and suites. We pay government hotel tax and fees as a member of The Bahama Out Island Promotion Board.

To the best of my knowledge, we are the largest Bahamian-owned hotel in the Family Islands (by number of rooms).

We also continue to successfully operate a 150 slip marina (host of five major fishing tournaments this year), 2 restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, marina bar, pool, and other facilities at Treasure Cay.
