I have been informed by Atlantis that the resort was not the initiator of the renaming idea, but that they were approached by a representative of the government to participate in a joint venture to honour Sir Sidney, and that they agreed to participate in that venture, offering, among other things, planning and logistical support.

The Fortieth Anniversary Committee was similarly approached with the concept and brought into the discussion after initial communications had been made. That the idea to rename the bridge after Sir Sidney did not originate with the Committee is the only thing about which I now find myself to be certain.
