Excellent article explaining the dire conch situation we are facing here in The Bahamas.

Sadly, I have seen myself the size of the conchs get smaller every decade since first coming in the mid 70’s and attended one of Ms. Booker’s lectures which really was an eye opener as she has the research to back it up.

We MUST act now before the stocks completely collapse like in the Florida Keys, so please keep this story in the news as much as possible and the pressure on the powers to be.

I am pleased to hear that a group like Community Conch exists to provide both scientific research and suggestions for a sustainable future for the Bahamian conch. I wish other nations would take the interest to protect their stock like the Bahamian government seems to be doing. This effort does not need to stall in debate for then the fishermen, Bahamians and the ecosystem all lose.
